Gardening as it ought to be

Gardening with cats
I hesitate before putting gardening and cats in the same sentence, because it looks like a cheap attempt to boost traffic. But as this post is all about gardening with cats, I can't see much alternative.

So how does gardening with cats work, you might ask? I don't pretend to be an expert, but with Nero, who you see above, checking on his seedlings , it works in two ways.

One is that, when I have sown seed in neat rows, he comes along and improves things. Straight lines don't do it for him. What you see above was intended to be a row of sprouts on the right, then purple sprouting broccoli, then cabbages.

Nero had other ideas, and did a quick bit of redistribution. So now I have three lots of pretty much identical seedlings nicely mixed up. Only time will tell which is which, Nero's not saying. Quite possibly, he's forgotten exactly what he planted where, as he doesn't seem to follow any system of labelling.

The other way gardening works with him is, I plant something, and he notices it is insufficiently manured. So he digs it up and gives the roots a good mulching with a product that he very efficiently provides from his own personal supply. The only problem here is his digging up is a lot better than his planting back. Or perhaps he sees that as my job.

Nero's style of gardening is quite unlike that of Luigi, who departed this mortal plot a couple of years ago. He was more of a pest control expert, and security consultant. Somehow I think he could have taught Nero a thing or two.
